Hope you have a happy heart today…

Heavenly Eva…

A friend’s daughter is 5 and getting her hair cut for the first time!  (can you imagine?)  They’re donating several inches to Locks of Love :)   Meanwhile, I was asked to make some images of her before her big date with the salon.  So here is lovely Eva, in all her glory.

Well, I kinda got all I want, so I’ll just ask for more creativity in my work life and in general,  more of an appreciation of the people I love and all that I have.   I hope you receive all that you want during this Holiday Season too.

Cheers,

Joan

Christmas musings…

The tape dispenser is missing, along with several items from my desk.    It looks like my kids (5 & 6 1/2) have mastered the art of regifting….

Now residing in my office, here’s the Argus Seventy Five.  Only made from 1949 to 1958, it belonged to my Mom or Dad.  I wish I could ask them about it.  All I remember was I loved carrying it around on my neck.  Here I am wearing it with my brother Mike,  and another classic, our old Chevy Biscayne.  Go ahead and laugh, it was the ’70s…

Canon’s 5D is always in the office, it’s the camera I choose for most assignments.  Favorite lenses are the 17-35 and the 85 1.8.  I’ll start every a shoot with one of them.  The little red thing is a clown nose – never know when I’ll need that to loosen up a subject…

I got this from a studio photographer I used to assist in the ’90s.  He was closing his studio to open up a restaurant (trying to find a harder way to make a buck?)  Anyway I used it to shoot product in the old days and only some portraiture.  I know I ought to dust it off and use the decade old Polaroid 55 in my freezer.  But while I love portraits on 4×5, with their restrained and contemplative style, it’s never been my thing to do.   So here it sits, like a piece of art or sculpture in our front room.  Facing the window, at f 32, waiting, waiting….for the children to get off the bus.

I’ve got cameras all over the house, old ones, film ones, ones I’ve never used and ones I doubt I’ll pick up again. Like the island of misfit toys, they stand, waiting.   Let me show them to you.  Maybe this will inspire me to pick a few up again (there is still film and precious Polaroid in the freezer…)

Hey Jude…

My friends Vicki & Thad just had a new baby, Camille Jude. She looked alittle less happy to see me than I was to see her. But then again, at 3 weeks old, it’s probably the first time she’s looked into big camera lens. But definitely not the last.

Fall is here!

We’re pumpkin pickin’ and celebrating the fall colors.  Hope you’re enjoying the crispness in the air where you are (even if it’s only alittle crisper).
